Main rule: Privacy by design
Advertisement are fine if they comply to

• They are served by the same domain
• No involvement of third parties
• No tracking by third parties. See also the previous item
• They are not annoying (no movements, no sounds)
• They do not take much bandwith to download them
• They are not intimidating
• They are informative
• The information of the visitor, including the IP address, is not handed over to third parties in any way unless there is a legal obligation which can not be avoided
