Behringer UMC202HD
Debian version: 10.10
Audacity version: 2.2.2
Behringer UMC202HD
Cons
- 48V switch on the back. It is obvious since there is not room on the front. It is no big deal to reach for it and switch it on a daily basis.
- The manual can be unclear and / or incomplete at places
- Too low recording level. When recording from the microphone to Audacity via the USB interface the output level is too low. We have set Gain to 80% on the device so it just not clips. In Pulse Audio Volume Control we have set in the tab “Recording” “Alsa-plugin [audacity]: Alsa Capture from” to the maximum of 153%. In the tab “Input devices” we have set “UMC202HD 192k Analog Stereo” to the maximum of 153%. When the signal just not clips on the device we get a maximum level of 55% in Audacity. So no headroom at all
Pros
- 48V switch on the back. This contributes to a cleaner look
- The output sound is very clean. We could not hear any noise. Quite different from the default soundcard in the computer which has a lot of noise
- Volume control for the headphones
- Clip indicator. We do not miss a VU meter
- Nice looking box
- Nice dials, buttons and connectors
- Good price compared to the competition
- No software, which you might not need but have to pay for, included in the package
Phantom powersupply
