IDE notebook in a regular PC

Howto connect an IDE notebook harddisk to an IDE connection in a regular PC. You need a converter
See How to connect 2.5 IDE hard drive to PC for the instructions

Trouble shooting

  • Make sure you have the orientation of the drive right. So it is not connected upside down to the converter
  • When the drive is not recognised by the PC check the powerlines on the converter. You can do this visual or with a multimeter. If you find a broken line repair it by soldering a wire on the board.
