The Unix (Linux) dictum: Whoever has physical access to the machine owns it

All testing is done on Debian unless it is clear from the context that it is not the case. Items tested on Debian will probably also work on other Linux flavours.

Some interesting Debian based distributions:

• Armbian on the Orange Pi
• Besgnulinux uses the JWM window manager. Designed to be fast, lightweight, easy to use and suitable for older and low-specification computers. The homepage is on blogspot. So the privacy awareness might be not that high
• !#++ Crunchbangplusplus. Desktop environment: openbox
• Clonezilla is a partition and disk imaging/cloning program
• Cyrethium is focused on privacy and security. It can route all traffic through the Tor network. DNSCrypt-Proxy and I2P Router are pre-configured. Has custom hardened Firefox variants and includes multi-layered hardening against cyber attacks
• Damn Small Linux 2005. Based on Knoppix. Development stopped in 2012
• Damn Small Linux 2024¹⁾. Based on Antix. 648MB ISO
• Debian
• Deepin is aimed at ease of use
• Grml²⁾ Live disk especially for system administrators
• Kodachi can be run from a DVD or USB thumb drive. It filters all network traffic through a VPN and the Tor network, obscuring the user's network location. Attempts to clean up after itself, removing traces of its use from the computer
• MiniOS is lightweight, modular, versatile and customisable. It comes in three editions, “Standard”, “Toolbox” and “Ultra”
• Linux Mint is a good solution for people who want to migrate from Microsoft Windows to Linux
• Network Attached Storage NAS
• Raspbian on the Raspberry Pi
• Tiny Core Linux 16 MB with FLTK/FLWM desktop. Core: 11 MB. Forked from Damn Small Linux 2005 which is based on Knoppix
• Umbrelos is for home servers
• Yunohost Libre operating system aiming to simplify server administration and democratize self-hosting

• Parted Magic is a complete hard disk management solution. Based on: Slackware

• Immutable Linux distributions. An immutable distribution ensures that the operating system's core, root filesystem, remains unchanged, read-only. This, makes it possible to stay the same across multiple instances. Things can be changed if needed. This option is disabled by default
