Start at a certain position. num is the number of frames to skip

mpg123 --skip num /home/user/somefilename.mp3

For a 64 kb/s, 192 B file one minute is 2500 frames. num=10000 → playing starts a the 4 th minute

mpg123 --skip 10000 /home/user/somefilename.mp3

Play a playlist in random order

mpg123 --shuffle --list playlist.txt

To skip a file in a playlist hit the

End

Playlist

A playlist is a file containing lines like

/home/user/somefilename.mp3

Select audio device

Use, find by experimenting,

mpg123 -a  hw:x,y  some.mp3

the right numbers for x and y in the hw:x,y option to select the audio device you want to use
x is the device to be used
y is unknown to us

Play a .m3u file

The mu3 file has to contain one or more URL's
mpg123 --list somefile.m3u
