PCLinuxOS
We used PCLinuxOS from the Live DVD running from RAM. The DVD can be removed. This is very nice. PCLinuxOS creates a 8 GB RAM disk (out of 16 GB existing RAM)
Issues
- “ are as troublesome as they are in Windows. In tmux we were not able to use them. For instance splitting a screen with CTRL-b “ is unachievable
- When we left the computer on over night, the next morning it had rebooted
- Not all needed packages are in the packagemanger
- Synaptic is not userfriendly. Is is not possible, we did not find it, to search for installed packages with a certain name
- X2GO client does not work. After installing x2GOagent, nxagent, nxproxy and dependencies we ran x2goagent as user guest form a terminal and got
Error: Aborting session with 'Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock and start again'. Session: Aborting session at 'Tue Jun 30 11:36:02 2020'. Session: Session aborted at 'Tue Jun 30 11:36:02 2020'.
We did
# ls -l .X0-lock
and got
- r--r--r-- 1 root root 11 Jun 30 2020 .X0-lock
So it seems the lock comes with the installation or default with PCLinuxOS
We removed the lock and ran x2goagent again and got
$ x2goagent _XSERVTransSocketUNIXCreateListener: ...SocketCreateListener() failed _XSERVTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: server already running Error: Aborting session with 'Cannot establish any listening sockets - Make sure an X server isn't already running'. Session: Aborting session at 'Tue Jun 30 11:40:28 2020'. Session: Session aborted at 'Tue Jun 30 11:40:28 2020'.
After reading man x2goagent it is clear that this is a server side application. We need the client side so x2goclient. It is not in the PCLinuxOS repository. We tried to download the package. We had to manually compile it and ran in other issues. One of them being: qmake is not in the PCLinuxOS repository. So we gave up
Conclusion
Nice distro but to many issues if you are used to Debian with Xfce
