Install and configure
- Read the comments about security in man ssh under the -X option
- Install x2x on the “to” computer
- and maybe on both computers, so also on the “from” computer
- Make sure libxcb-xtest0 is installed on the client, “to”. computer
- Make sure an ssh server, like openssh-server is installed and running on the “ẗo” computer
- In /etc/ssh/sshd_config on the “ẗo” computer turn on “X11Forwarding yes”
Connect
ssh -p portnumber -X 192.168.0.2 /usr/bin/x2x -to :0 -east ^ On which side of the screen you want the mousepointer to move to the other screen ^ The program ssh to be forwarded to ^ the "to" screen computer's IP address
Use
- If you use a single monitor for two computers and you have moved the mouse pointer to the other computer do not forget to switch the monitor to the other computer too (and later back
- When the “to” computer is turned off focus is placed on the “from” computer.
- When the mousepointer leaves the “from” screen on the east side it has to return on the “to” screen on the west side.
- To go back to the “from” screen double click somewhere (does not work everywhere on the screen), for xample in the panel on an expanded separator, and do it fast!
- x2x can be stopped by typing CTRL-C in the terminal it is started in.
