Debian Troubleshooting

Issues on Debian 10 Buster

Run journalctl -xb and scan for highlighted red (Error) and white (Warning) text
We found;

  1. MDS CPU bug present and SMT on, data leak possible. See for more details.
  2. mtrr: your CPUs had inconsistent variable MTRR settings
  3. ACPI: [Firmware Bug]: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored
  4. i8042: Warning: Keylock active
  5. wmi_bus wmi_bus-PNP0C14:00: WQBC data block query control method not found
  6. ata1.00: supports DRM functions and may not be fully accessible
  7. ACPI Warning: SystemIO range 0x0000000000000428-0x000000000000042F conflicts with OpRegion 0x0000000000000400-0x000000000000047F (\PMIO) (20180810/utaddress-213)
  8. lpc_ich: Resource conflict(s) found affecting gpio_ich
  9. dell-smbios [hash]: WMI SMBIOS userspace interface not supported(0), try upgrading to a newer BIOS
  10. iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: can't disable ASPM; OS doesn't have ASPM control
  11. usb 2-1.8: config 0 descriptor??
  12. ntfs_attr_open failed, inode 348361 attr 0xc0: No such file or directory
  13. ntpd[881]: error resolving pool Name or service not known (-2)



  • Run systemctl status ntp to see the error here also
  • Check if is still a valid timeserver
  • If not remove the entry from /etc/ntp.conf
    • Run systemctl restart ntp
    • Run systemctl status ntp to check
