How to transfer files from one computer to an other computer

With SFTP (SSH)

Via aptitude

  • Install the task task-ssh-server on the server
  • Install Filezilla on the client computer
  • Grant access on the client and the server via the firewall port 22. See UFW
  • In Filezilla use the SFTP protocol

Download with TLS on Windows

Nederlands

Download and install Filezilla
from: https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?platform=win64
assuming it is a 64 bit computer.

Start Filezilla
Click on File > Site manager in the menu
Click on New site
If you wish, give the site a name

General tab
Protocol: FTP - File Transfer Protocol
Host: ftp.domain.com
Use explicit FTP over TLS if available
Port: Do not fill in anything
Logon type: Normal
Login: something@domain.nl
Password: made from https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm third or middle row, something like 20 or more characters
Path: Something like /home/domain/domains/domain.nl/public_ftp

Advanced tab
Check Bypass proxy
Default local directory: Where you want to place the files
Default remote directory: /home/domain/domains/domain.nl/public_ftp/directorywithfiles

Click on connect.
Click OK at the certificate pop up if it appears
Double click on the directorywithfiles folder
CTRL-A to select all files
Right-click
Click download
Wait until the download is finished
Log out: CTRL-D
Close Filezilla
Done
