Recover root password

In grub do

<e> (edit)
Goto the right boot entry line: linux /boot/vmlinuz[kernelversioin] root=[hash]=ro quit
<end> (goto the end of the line)
Add: <space>/bin/bash
<F10>

Wait for the prompt
At the prompt do

mount  -n -o remount,rw /
passwd (and enter the new password, twice)
reboot (reboot the system)
